WHY 'INDIA' IS CALLED INDIA?

        

So, many of you thought that how this vast country got the name - INDIA.

It also had many other names in past, we will discuss about them all.



OTHER NAMES - India has been one of the important land in the history. It has diversified cultures, religions, languages and practice. It had many other names in past like -

a. BHARATA -  also called Bharat-varsha , originate from the name Bharat - the son of Dushyant, who is the forefather of the Pandavas and kauravas , which are mentioned in the epic 'Mahabharat'.

b. JAMBUDWEEP -  this name is used in ancient literature, scriptures and still used ocasionally in southeast Asian countries like Indonesia, Bali, Thailand, etc.

c. ARYAVARTA - means the land of Aryans, so referring to Indo-Aryan tribe.

d. TENJIKU - this name of INDIA is known by very few people. It is a word of Chinese origin. Which means the land of five geographical regions -these are Northern, Southern, Western, eastern and Central India. This name was given by Chinese people.

India has also many other names but these 4 were important ones.

GOT THE NAME 'INDIA' - 

This name is because of river INDUS in which Indus valley civilization grew. The original name of river was SINDHU. But the Arab and Persian trader use the word 'H' in place of 'S' , So thus , sindhu became Hindu or the river INDU. And thus - HINDUSTAN.

WORD EXPLANATION - 

 Hindu+ Stan = Hindu - the Hindu/Sindhu people.

   Stan - "the land of" (in arabic) . That's why many countries have 'STAN' as the suffix like - Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tazakistan , etc.

The name India also means same that is land of Hindus / Sindhus. Because word explanation of India is like- 

  IND+IA = Ind - the land of Hindus/Sindhus.

 Ia -  ia simply means "the land of" (in latin) . It is same like Stan in Arabic. That's why many countries have IA as suffix like- Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, Arabia , etc. All meaning "the land of".

• while all other names of this country lost its publicity, charm . INDIA / IND-IA is still stuck on. Thus, this vast country is called INDIA.

OFFICIAL NAMES - 

In are constitution 2 names are given India and Bharata . in article 1 , like this - India that Bharat, shall be a union of States.
